HEY THERE, FRIEND!
i'm libs elliott.
I design fabric, host global textile expeditions, and build creative systems that turn intangible ideas into modern heirlooms. I’m glad you’re here—let's make something that breaks the rules.
FROM THE ADVERTISING AGENCY TO THE CUTTING TABLE
For years, I sat at the intersection of the creative and the technical. As a project manager at a major advertising agency, my days were spent building digital worlds for global brands. But at night, I sought a different kind of relief: the tactile, slow, and intentional process of quilting. It was a soft puzzle—a way to decompress by selecting fabrics and cutting them up to create something entirely new.
In 2012, those two worlds finally collided. I collaborated with artist Joshua Davis to use computer code to generate geometric designs, which I then translated into physical, handmade quilts. It was a balance that hadn’t been explored this way before—the quick gratification of generative design meeting the slow, rhythmic handcraft of the sewing machine.
That was the moment I found my voice. It turns out, my creativity requires both the left and right brain to be fully alive.
EXPERIMENTAL TOOLS FOR A BOLD CREATIVE VOICE
I don’t believe in waiting for a lightning bolt of inspiration. Instead, I build systems that invite it. My background in technology and design thinking shaped a unique approach to the craft: I treat the cutting table like a laboratory.
While my journey began with generative code, my practice has evolved into a broader exploration of randomized design. Whether I’m using custom algorithms, rolling dice, or working within structured prompts, I use these "rules" to break out of traditional patterns and discover compositions I never could have imagined on my own.
- I still love the tension of rendering intangible strings of code into warm, luxurious textiles.
- I use dice and randomized frameworks to bypass overthinking and get straight to the making.
- I don’t just teach you how to follow a pattern; I give you the tools to develop your own voice through experimentation and improvisation.
It’s a balance of left-brain logic and right-brain intuition—where the process is just as electric as the final quilt.
